In our recent survey at the Kent Construction Expo, many respondents highlighted privacy and quiet as key factors for improving workplace wellbeing. Common requests included more private workspaces, distraction-free zones, and improved acoustics.

With focused work remaining a priority, spaces designed for privacy and quiet are a major trend for 2026. Popular solutions include standalone acoustic booths, switchable glass for instant privacy, and sliding acoustic partitions that transform open areas into private zones.

Adaptable office design continues to gain momentum, particularly for businesses with hybrid working patterns or changing team structures. These workspaces are designed to be easily reconfigured without major building work.

Features such as modular seating, mobile acoustic screens and portable power points allow offices to flex as needs change, making adaptability a key consideration for 2026.

Value in Variety

We’re also seeing more multifunctional spaces that support work, collaboration and downtime, such as Ward Security’s breakout floor with laptop stations, dining areas and bleacher seating.

Purpose-Led Collaboration Zones

With hybrid working still shaping office use, many organisations are focusing on high-quality collaboration spaces to make in-office time count.

This includes private, acoustically treated meeting rooms for planning, open areas for impromptu brainstorming, and welcoming breakout spaces designed to encourage connection. For larger teams, electronic room booking systems are also becoming essential

Active Zones to Boost Wellbeing

Design-led wellbeing initiatives remain important, with active zones becoming more common. At Crowe UK, for example, walking pads and height-adjustable desks were introduced to support movement during the working day.

Our wellbeing survey also highlighted demand for fun, social features such as dartboards and ping pong tables, which help boost both physical and mental wellbeing while encouraging team bonding.

Sliding Folding Walls and Multifunctional Spaces

Sliding and folding walls deserve another mention for 2026. Beyond improving acoustics and privacy, they enable truly multifunctional spaces.

At Crowe UK’s Kent office, sliding partitions allow office areas to quickly convert into open-plan event spaces, ideal for client events, company announcements and team gatherings.

Conclusion – Office Design Trends 2026

This year’s trends reinforce a clear theme: employee-centric design remains at the forefront. From quiet zones and adaptable layouts to active areas and hospitality-inspired spaces, the focus is firmly on experience and wellbeing.

With more organisations aiming for a full return to the office, increased investment in high-quality workplace design could shape the direction of office interiors throughout 2026 and beyond.
