Course Overview

This comprehensive FAA Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) equips learners with the knowledge and practical skills needed to respond effectively to a wide range of first aid situations in the workplace.

It is suitable for individuals with designated first aid responsibilities in the workplace, as well as those involved in voluntary or community group settings where first aid support may be required.

This nationally regulated qualification is awarded by First Aid Awards (FAA) and meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981.

Learning Outcomes

Learners will be able to:

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Understand the role of a first aider, including legal duties

  • Minimise the risk of infection to self and others

  • Obtain appropriate consent before administering aid

Incident Management

  • Conduct a scene and primary casualty survey

  • Summon appropriate emergency assistance

First Aid Skills

  • Perform adult CPR using a manikin

  • Place a casualty in the recovery position and monitor breathing

  • Assist casualties experiencing seizures or choking

  • Manage external bleeding and identify life-threatening bleeding

  • Recognise and treat shock

Minor Injuries

  • Administer first aid for small cuts, grazes, bruises, splinters, nosebleeds, and minor burns and scald.


Assessment & Certification

  • Assessment is through practical demonstration with no written test.

  • There is no grading - learners pass or are referred.

  • On successful completion, participants will receive the FAA Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF).

  • Valid for 3 years. The HSE strongly recommends annual refresher training.
