On 21st – 31st October 2019, HOP Consulting Limited are bringing back ‘Practical Skills in Construction’, a successful community initiative that they previously led back in 2016. This is a short course designed for young people, who are not in education, employment or training, who wish to obtain a job in the construction industry, but have not yet had the opportunity to do so.
During the two-week training programme, participants will visit various locations around Brighton to get practical ‘hands-on’ experience on things like groundworks, bricklaying, carpentry and finishing. They will receive the necessary Health & Safety education to allow them to obtain a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card and thus have access to job opportunities on construction sites in and around the city.
The course will be made up of various learning opportunities, workshops and site visits thanks to the generous involvement of other local businesses. Participants will get the opportunity to meet people from major construction firm partners and develop their knowledge on a variety of trades and career paths that are available.
“We understand that in recent times it is increasingly difficult for young people to get onto the career ladder. We wished to offer young people the right tools and knowledge to gain fulltime work. We believe that such initiatives are needed to help tackle the current skills shortage and safe guard the future of our industry, helping others at the same time.” – Adam Humphrey, Director of HOP Consulting.
