News from the Seaford Chamber January 2019

In the autumn 2018 budget the government announced a new business rate relief scheme for retail properties that have a rateable value under £51,000. LDC would like to hear from local businesses, residents, organisations and other stakeholders about the proposed policy under which they would apply this rate relief.  Click here to go to the survey - you have until 5pm on Thursday 31 January to complete it.

BML2 Project group

London edges closer towards BML2 as new diagram (featured in the online London Evening Standard), shows fast link.

Whether termed 'Crossrail 3' or 'Thameslink 2' -

BML2's Croydon-Stratford connection is gaining backing among London boroughs and business interests.

Similarly, the Government's National Infrastructure Commission believes

'There is currency in the view that there is a case for a third Crossrail scheme - to extend the existing line southwards at Stratford, across the Thames and connecting with the Brighton Main Line and providing congestion relief to it.'

Updated news on Alasdair Fortune and Ian Kerr

Following on from the last Chamber News, we are pleased to report that Alasdair Fortune has recently been discharged from hospital and will now continue his treatment as an outpatient.  That's really great news and we look forward to seeing Alasdair again at breakfast when he's back at work.

The latest update regarding Ian Kerr reads as follows:

"I am recovering well. My face has healed up well with only the slightest twinges around my right eye socket when I push there (so don't push there). Although the light and noise sensitivity is far better than at first and my cognitive functions are now good, I still have difficulty in retaining dates and times (not good with the hospital appointments) and words and place names are sometimes elusive.  The final thing I am working through is the fatigue.... I am signed off until the end of January and, hopefully, will be back to work at least part time after that."

We wish both our members the very best for a speedy recovery.

Seaford Head School....

....are still keen to invite local businesses into the school to talk to students about what they do - could you spare a couple of hours to visit and talk about YOUR business?  If you can help, e-mail Rob Handy or phone 01323 872702. Resources Centre now available on the Chamber Website

Between us, Chamber members have a wealth of knowledge on our specialist professions.  So we have created a 'Resource Centre' on the website where content of previous breakfast meeting presentations and tips from Committee members are now available to view.  This is now being rolled out to all members to add something from their area of expertise. Send a short article of around 300 - 400 words to me and I will arrange to have it uploaded to the website.  This also showcases your skills to other members!   You have to log-in to be able to view the page as this benefit is only available to members at present.
