Environmental Award for Sussex Business
The winner of the Seahaven Award for Environmental Business of the Year has been announced. There were 600 nominations for the annual awards programme. Judges included 2 Members of Parliament and 3 Chamber of Commerce Presidents who scored applicants across several measurable criteria for success.
The Environmental business winner Strategic Management Partners was founded by Clive Bonny with his wife Sue in 1990 providing support for business sustainability. SMP's activities include conservation education in schools enabling primary and secondary students to remake and recycle clothes. As a result over 500 students have developed entrepreneurship skills and improved their employability.
Clive co-founded Rottingdean charity Beacon Hub which has converted 20 acres of unused public space into a free public nature reserve for community health, recreation and environmental education, enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities every single day.
Partnering with Green Growth Platform SMP has helped support their development of 200 East Sussex eco-innovation companies. These firms have created 200 full time jobs in environmental products and services. One of them Passiv Pod has just won the UK award for Innovation in Sustainable Accommodation and is now offering shares to the public. Their zero carbon offsite buildings offer 80% less construction waste, 80% less time to build and 80% lower energy costs.
