MacConvilles are delighted to have been recognised in last week’s RICS South East Awards in Southampton. Held on Thursday 16th May, our director of quantity surveying, Ben Coombs was happy to accept the Community Benefit award for our Brighton and Hove Food Partnership Community Kitchen Project on behalf of the whole team.

The RICS Awards celebrate the achievements and successes of RICS professionals and their impact on local communities, as well as the inspirational initiatives and developments the surveying industry contributes in. The awards are part of a global scheme to recognise outstanding workmanship within the surveying industry, something that MacConvilles always aspires to provide.

This particular project was conceived back in January 2018, when the MacConvilles team was debating how best to mark the company’s 80th year. We decided to donate 80 hours of our surveying services to the local community, although our final time tally far exceeded this number. Every member of the team agreed that the project was worth every minute.

When the Food Partnership asked us for some help in creating the Community Kitchen we couldn't wait to get involved. We put together a team to deliver the project, which was overseen by our quantity surveyors. The Food Partnership is now able to provide low-cost or free cooking courses, running sessions for those on limited incomes or with health issues.

“This is a project we are immensely proud of and we are delighted to have been involved with it from the start. When a professional team all come together to really collaborate and go above and beyond to deliver a scheme that exceeds the client requirements, it makes the job so worthwhile. This project will deliver real community benefit and provide positive change in people’s lives for years to come.' said Ben, director of quantity surveying and project lead for the Community Kitchen.

The RICS judges clearly agreed that we delivered a high quality job with a tremendous impact on the local community.
