Urinal Cakes Take On New Meaning for Bio-Productions
The team at Bio-Productions went all out with their entries to The BHBPA (Burgess Hill Business Park Association) Awesome Autumn Battle of the Bakes today, which took place at The King’s Church, Burgess Hill raising £310 for its chosen charity. Eight members of the company joined in with the October baking completion across all three categories. As well as individual entries, this innovative, green, industrial cleaning products manufacturer entered the company-orientated category, designed to reflect the business, its products or people.
Bio-Productions Corporate Showstopper Cake, featured (wait for it...) a urinal complete with cleaning blocks! You’d be forgiven for thinking this was just toilet humour, but for Bio-Productions it was a true reflection of one of its best-selling products, Bio Blocks (commonly known as urinal cakes). The cake also gave a nod to the two urinals, which take centre stage in the boardroom (just for demonstration purposes of course, not for actual use!).
The team bakers spanned all areas of the company with an array of autumn-themed goodies:
- Beckie from Accounts: Urinal, Urinal Blocks and Blu Away Biological Urinal Cleaner.
- Nettie from Sales: Fox, Owl & Bonfire Night Cup Cakes.
- Janet from Accounts: Bonfire Night Cup Cakes.
- Sara from HR: Pear in a Muddy Puddle Cake and Pumpkin Cookies.
- Lyn & Angela from Sales: Hedgehog Cake.
- Chris from Labels: 5 Litre Lemon Floor Gel, with Urinal blocks and a lemon floor gel drizzle.
- Plus, Jay, from the company’s courier Southlink in Lancing, with a late entry couriered over to assist in raising funds – Carrot Cake with Autumn Decorations.
The competition was judged by two representatives from Burgess Hill based Lizzie’s Food Factory, Senior Cake Decorator, Shakira Tettersell and Sales Manager, Martin Chaplin. Bio-Productions walked away with joint first prize for the Corporate Showstopper (The Urinal Cake) baked by Rebecca Banks, Accounts Assistant and in the individual category, first prize for Nettie Hickling, Sales Office Manager, with her Fox, Owl & Bonfire Night Cup Cakes.
It’s no surprise that team took up the challenge with gusto, as the initial idea for a charity baking competition came from Bio-Productions in the first place. As it was such a good concept it was taken up by the Burgess Hill Business Park Association to give it broader appeal and the potential to raise more funds for its charity partner St Peter & St James Hospice - a charity that Bio-Productions often support with its own ongoing fundraising.
Although not expert bakers, the team from Bio are no strangers to cake and cookie making as they often incorporate a bake sale into their fundraising efforts. MD Angela Gill was delighted with the turn out, “Everyone really embraced the concept, even those that hadn’t baked before. The standard was truly amazing – it was such a fantastic event for the business community and a fun way to raise funds for an important cause.”
