Understanding Menopause & Andropause in the Workplace
Menopause will affect 50% of the population at some point in their lives, and symptoms in the run up (known as perimenopause) can cause havoc, not just physically but mentally and emotionally, too. While women are coping with everything from hot flushes to debilitating migraines, men experience a slow decline in testosterone levels from their 30s, known as andropause. Although it’s not as rapid as menopause, this can also result in low energy, mood swings, and loss of muscle mass.
Sussex-based organisations need to build greater awareness, encourage open conversations and create a more supportive workplace for everyone navigating these changes, and what better time to get started than Menopause Awareness Month.
This midlife transition can bring a range of physical, emotional and psychological changes, yet conversations around these topics are often overlooked or misunderstood, particularly in the workplace. Three in four women experiencing perimenopause say it has negatively impacted their work, and worryingly one in 10 has left a job due to symptoms.
Fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and exhaustion from poor sleep all impact performance. Absenteeism increases too, with employees often taking sick days without feeling they can disclose the real reason.
On October 8th The Wellbeing Workout, in partnership with The Midlife Mentors, presents ‘Understanding Menopause & Andropause in the Workplace’, a free webinar to offer Sussex-based HR or People professionals, business leaders, and managers practical insights and actionable takeaways to help create a more supportive and inclusive working environment.
