Small businesses and Net Zero: How to best support them? Participate in Sussex University research

The UK has committed itself by law to reduce carbon emissions to Net Zero by 2050.  We want to understand what stops micro/small businesses from engaging with the Net Zero agenda and what would be good ways for engaging such businesses with Net Zero

The UK has committed itself by law to reduce carbon emissions to Net Zero by 2050. At the University of Sussex, we want to understand what stops micro/small businesses from engaging with the Net Zero agenda and what would be good ways for engaging such businesses with Net Zero.

SMEs can collectively reduce half of all UK’s business carbon emissions, yet 76% of them are still to implement decarbonisation strategies, while only 3% have measured their carbon footprint. This is often driven by concerns about costs, feasibility or lack of control or knowledge about Net Zero. We would like to work with micro and small businesses to develop a set of methods, tools and guides that will respond to the particular Net Zero challenges of the smallest businesses in the UK
