SCDA - Sussex Business Heroes

Sussex Community Development Association’s mission is “Making a difference in your Community” and that’s truer than ever during than this crisis. Here are just some examples of the work we are doing.

Our Seahaven Food Bank has adapted quickly to be able make home deliveries and last week delivered 92 parcels supporting 214 adults and children. That’s up from 30-40 parcels in normal times. We have also stepped in to fill the gap caused by the recent closure of the Peacehaven food bank. The increased demand has coincided with a fall in food donations and we are having to buy much more food than we used to. We are very grateful to the generous donors to our new fundraising site ( www.gofundme.com/f/seahaven-foodbank ).

Our Denton Island nursery is the only nursery to stay open in Newhaven and last week supported 17 children of key workers.

Several of our programmes have successfully moved to a virtual delivery model. These include our Newhaven based Youth service, our affordable counselling service and our well established Befriending service.

Like everyone else the SCDA staff and volunteers are finding life challenging but we are proud that we have been able to keep supporting our community.
