Burgess Hill manufacturer, Bio-Productions, is helping the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association clean up after their canine friends.

Earlier this year, the cleaning chemicals company donated Sanitaire absorbent powder to the charity’s regional training school at Redbridge, Ilford in East London to help them shift any doggy dirt.

The Sanitaire powder is specially designed to tackle a variety of accidental spillages, with the ability to absorb up to 200 times its own volume. It is also used for preventing the spread of infection of in hospitals and care homes.  Since it was introduced to the Guide Dogs, it has helped trainers fight the perennial problem of unexpected pet deposits on carpets, stairs and floors while they bring trainee pups up to speed.

“You sprinkle the powder and wait for crystals to form,” says Managing Director of Bio-Productions, Angela Gill. “We thought it would be perfect for cleaning up after the guide dogs because you can just sweep away any dirt and not worry about smells or stains.

“We’ve heard that it’s helped trainers and their dogs to focus on what’s important, which is really great to hear. We really admire the work the Associate carries out, and I know our whole team are happy to have made a difference to two other senses – touch and smell!”

Across their training schools, the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association trained 1,486 pups in 2017.  The introduction of Sanitaire is expected to save costs, and reduce time spent mopping and cleaning after each session.

Debra Moody, Reception Co-ordinator at Redbridge, said: “Sanitaire has made a big difference to our staff training availability time, making our training here more cost effective and a great deal more pleasant.”
