Reusable period products gain ground in 2020

The UK’s leading reusable menstrual cup, Mooncup®, has seen its brand awareness grow to 39% of all women, according to research by the market intelligence agency, Mintel. Mintel recently published its annual report on Intimate Hygiene and Sanitary Protection Products in the UK.

The shift to environmentally friendly products was particularly strong among younger women, aged 16-24, with 17% having purchased environmentally friendly period products in 2020. This matches sales data from Mooncup Ltd: the company has seen a 101% increase in online sales for the younger, 18–24-year-old demographic in the UK since the start of the pandemic. 

Mooncup is considered a highly differentiated brand by the women surveyed by Mintel. The respondents saw the brand as ethical and innovative – a likely result of the Mooncup being the first silicone menstrual cup in the world. The Mooncup was also seen a brand worth paying more for by 20% of respondents familiar with the brand.
