The Challenge

To find a recycling solution for scrap silicone rubber, reducing our contribution to landfill waste.

The Solution

We set out initially by looking into repurposing the product ourselves. Scrap silicone is most often granulated and mixed with an RTV adhesive to form slabs. These slabs are used for matting in playgrounds, gyms, and other similar applications. Unfortunately, due to space requirements and additional plant cost we were unable to proceed. We instead decided to contact multiple recycling companies to secure a regular collection and form a reliable long-standing solution to our waste problem. These specialised recycling firms collect the scrap and sell it to business that process the material in a similar manor mentioned previously.

The Outcome

After several months of trial runs, financial complications, and storage limitations we have managed to come to an agreement with a reputable recycling firm who will take the entirety of our silicone rubber scrap.
