Member in the Spotlight - FermionX

At FermionX, we manufacture products used in the microbiology industry. These products help carry out vital food safety, clinical and pharmaceutical testing. The sterile nature of the laboratory testing industry means that there is a requirement for single-use-plastic to ensure accurate results. As a business, we want to do more to off-set the use of single use plastic and help reduce our carbon footprint in general.

The solution:

Whilst we can’t eliminate single-use plastic from the industry, we can help reduce the volumes. Therefore, we’re looking at ways in which we can adapt our products to help achieve this and have already implemented this into some of our laboratory products. Also, as a business we are exploring ways we can reduce and off-set our emissions. This would be achieved across a number of key areas in the business, including packaging, freight, business travel and updates to our premises.

The outcome:

Operating as a sustainably conscious business will form a key part of our business strategy and help inform key decisions. With the ultimate goal of reaching net zero in the next 10 years. Processes implemented to date are solar panels and LED lighting throughout across both factories, remote light sensors on toilets for power saving and reviewed international freight for low carbon shipping.
