Freeze the day – with ice skating at Bluebell Railway A unique opportunity not to be skated over!
A Sussex heritage railway is offering visitors the unique chance to experience ice skating alongside its much-loved steam railway attractions this half-term.
Bluebell Railway, which runs steam-hauled trains between Sheffield Park and East Grinstead, is open and running services every day until 27 February.
Ice skating sessions are also available for the new ice rink at Sheffield Park. The ice rink is open daily from 10am until 9pm, with late skate sessions until 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
The evening skate sessions allow visitors to enjoy the lighting from the ice rink, which provides a never-before-seen backdrop of the locomotives outside the shed.
Once visitors have enjoyed their skate they can thaw out with a hotdog and a hot drink, or chill out with a ‘cold one’ in our licensed bar and restaurant, The Bessemer Arms on platform 1. The Bessemer will be open all day every day until the last skate.
Ice skating tickets are £12 for adults and £10 for children. Slots can be booked online or on the day from Sheffield Park station.
The price for skating includes skate hire, and includes entry to SteamWorks!, an interactive exhibition which allows visitors to step aboard the footplate of a real life steam engine for a true driver’s eye view. Skate aids are also available to hire before the session.
As well as ice skating, the Railway is also running its popular ‘Kids for a Quid’ offer throughout the half term, with any child (3-15yrs) travelling for £1 when accompanied by a full fare-paying adult.
All Day Rover tickets allow unlimited travel between Sheffield Park and East Grinstead, stopping at Horsted Keynes and Kingscote. Visitors can enjoy the Museum at Sheffield Park, the ‘Elephant Van’ (a genuine circus elephant van converted into a kids soft play area) at Horsted Keynes and the children’s play and picnic area at Kingscote.
Visitors can enjoy plenty of free parking at Horsted Keynes and Sheffield Park - including EV charging points. Passengers travelling from East Grinstead via the mainline railway network will be pleased to note our station is just a 2 minute walk from the main station.
Group booking discounts, and skating sessions for wheelchair users are also available. Please see the Bluebell Railway website for further information: https://www.bluebell-railway.com/ice-skating/
