Constructing Excellence SECBE Awards 2019
Southwick based Pilbeam Construction have been awarded the ‘Project of the Year’ at the prestigious Constructing Excellence Awards Ceremony held at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London on Thursday 27th June.
At the annually held Constructing Excellence Awards for the South East, attended by over 600 people, the company was awarded Project of the Year Winner for their project at Gravetye Manor Hotel’s new restaurant. The project, comprising the construction of a contemporary restaurant over a new basement and a kitchen refurbishment at the Grade 1 Listed Gravetye Manor in West Hoathly, was declared Project of the Year ‘Winner’, beating 34 other entrants.
The brief for the project was a new restaurant addition and kitchen refurbishment to a Grade I listed hotel in a Grade II* listed gardens. There were very specific time constraints so as to not impact on the client’s business.
The judges commented on Pilbeam’s submission as being clearly the best of the 34 entries from across the South East with Katherine Faulks, of sponsors Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield commenting, “This submission projected exemplary behaviour across all criteria even though it presented an extreme construction challenge from the outset. An enlightened client and fully committed contractor meant that considerable resource was invested in engaging with specialist contractors to identify and mitigate risk.”
Simon Pilbeam, MD of Pilbeam Construction said;
“This was a high risk project that presented many technical, planning and operational challenges that could only be overcome by the dedication and commitment of the whole of the project team from the Client, through the consultants to our planning and construction teams. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to work with this team on this outstanding project.”
Andrew Thomason, Managing Director of Gravetye Manor said;
“Without the professionalism of Pilbeam and their dedicated team the new dining room would not have been completed on time and to the specification demanded from Gravetye’s design team. Congratulations and Thank-You!”
Charles Knowles of Charles Knowles Design Architects said;
“Having known Gravetye for over 25 years, it was a real privilege to be asked to capture the essence of this magical place in a contemporary building. It is thanks to the vision and commitment of an enlightened owner that we were given the opportunity to design this memorable and unusual restaurant constructed to the very highest standard.”
